Nonstop laughs
Struggle Jennings was great, nearly ruining the festival. People went nuts. The crowd literally erupted when he was introduced. The guy was great, came out and tore the place apart. Maybe it was just a perfect crowd for him. I mean that in the way that it was absolutely impossible for anyone to top his act after he went. Long Island and a heavy Italian comedian will yield good results. I had heard of Struggle before, but never actually seen his comedy. His energy (I called it Dane Cook style, which I promise I didn't mean as an insult) works perfectly off a rowdy crowd. Nonstop energy, 25 minutes of constant laughter, truly never seen an audience react to a comedian that way.
Poor John Oliver possibly ruined the show, because he couldn't top that act. Going from such high energy to a more political, serious, introspective John Oliver set didn't seem to sit well with the audience. Oliver is too big not to close but Struggle had what appeared to be the clear headline act. Unfortunately, half of the audience left during his set. There was no way around it. People were on board with him from the moment he stepped out and he delivered with fantastic material. Again, if anything, it was unfair he didn't close. He just absolutely killed, and did in 20 minutes what I've seen many comedians not see with an hour onstage to win you over. I can't deny the comedy or his ability to destroy onstage there.
